Leaving Pakistan: the polio certificate

Pakistan still has wild poliovirus, so WHO asks everyone who lives in Pakistan (or has stayed more than 4 weeks) to have a recent polio dose, recorded on an international certificate, before travelling abroad.

  1. Get one dose of polio vaccine (oral drops or the injection) between 4 weeks and 12 months before you travel. This applies at every age, including babies and older people.
  2. Get it at your District Health Office, and make sure your details are recorded.
  3. Download your digital certificate from NADRA's portal or the Pak Vaccination Pass app; the programme lists a fee of Rs 100.
  4. Leaving at short notice? Airport polio counters can vaccinate you and issue the certificate on the day.

Outbreaks change week to week, so check the latest advice from WHO and CDC before you travel.
