Malaria prevention medicine: CDC advises it for all travellers.
Polio protection: CDC has an enhanced-precautions notice for polio, so check your polio vaccination too.
Coming back to Pakistan from a country with yellow fever risk (or after a transit there of more than 12 hours)? Pakistan asks travellers aged 1 year and over for a yellow fever certificate.
Leaving Pakistan: the polio certificate
Pakistan still has wild poliovirus, so WHO asks everyone who lives in Pakistan (or has stayed more than 4 weeks) to have a recent polio dose, recorded on an international certificate, before travelling abroad.
- Get one dose of polio vaccine (oral drops or the injection) between 4 weeks and 12 months before you travel. This applies at every age, including babies and older people.
- Get it at your District Health Office, and make sure your details are recorded.
- Download your digital certificate from NADRA's portal or the Pak Vaccination Pass app; the programme lists a fee of Rs 100.
- Leaving at short notice? Airport polio counters can vaccinate you and issue the certificate on the day.
