What is Pentavalent Vaccine?

Pentavalent vaccine is given at 6, 10, and 14 weeks in Pakistan's routine schedule.

Dosage and schedule

Three-dose infant series at 6, 10, and 14 weeks.

Benefits

  • Reduces separate injections by combining DTP, hepatitis B, and Hib antigens.

Common reactions

  • Fever, fussiness, sleepiness, or reduced appetite.
  • Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site.

Precautions

  • Tell the vaccinator about severe reaction after a previous pentavalent or DTP-containing dose.
  • Ask a doctor if the child is acutely very unwell on vaccination day.

When to seek help

  • Seek care for persistent crying, breathing difficulty, seizures, or severe allergic symptoms.
