What is Measles-Rubella Vaccine?

WHO EMRO notes that Pakistan replaced measles vaccine with measles-rubella vaccine in 2021.

Dosage and schedule

MR-I at 9 months and MR-II at 15 months.

Benefits

  • Helps protect against measles and rubella.
  • Rubella protection also helps prevent congenital rubella syndrome in future pregnancies.

Common reactions

  • Mild fever, rash, or injection-site soreness can occur.
  • Temporary swelling of glands or mild joint aches can occur in some people.

Precautions

  • Tell the vaccinator about severe allergy after a previous MR/MMR-containing vaccine.
  • Ask a clinician before vaccination if severe immune compromise is known or suspected.

When to seek help

  • Seek care for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, prolonged fever, or any serious unexpected reaction.
